社工面對新媒體難題<三>

Use of social media can facilitate the development of social work and the service quality in diversified settings. However, how can we utilize the online platform appropriately when facing a lot of formidable difficulties? In light of the information provided by Social Work License Organization, a social work is preferable to consider several questions before using the social networking site to engage their service users, which include client confidentiality, personal-professional boundaries, and legal liabilities. Unfortunately, it is of importance to resolve these questions without a comprehensive user manual delivered by the official department, a unit with authority to supervise social workers, such as Hong Kong Social Worker Registration Board. A social worker, who mistakenly used his or her private account on social networking site, will cause a breach of rules and regulations ultimately. By the way of illustration, if a service user clicks following on a worker's Instagram to read all photos and video, it is possible to jeopardise the personal-professional relationship and adversely influence the service delivery in the foreseeable future. The situation of using new social media, similarly, should be used in a proper manner and a related party, such as the registration board, is required to bear the responsibility in collaboration with academic institutions to set up some guidelines for social workers at the highest possible pace.
