Gamified parenting program goes online

In fact, very few vulnerable families are likely to participate in face-to-face parenting classes. Attending a class in a service center may overwhelm parents with many logistical difficulties, such as childcare, transportation, and work schedule conflicts. The stigma surrounding a child’s disorders is also embarrassing. Learning online using mobile apps could be an option. The original offline version of Triple P – Positive Parenting Program has been used in countries all over the world, such as the U.S.A., England, Australia, Japan, Singapore, as well as Hong Kong. It’s been translated from English into many other languages. Recently, Love et al (2016) examined the feasibility of adding social media and gaming features and access via smartphones to the online version of Triple P in the U.S..A. The study used a single group repeated measures design (pre, post, 6-month follow-up). Data collected included self report measures, post-intervention focus groups and interviews, and website usage reports. Findings indicated reduced child behavioral problems, reduced permissive and over-reactive parenting, and decreased parental stress.
