Insights from New ICTs Trend in the world (2)



As mentioned from the previous post, the New ICTs Trend changed the world expeditiously and dramatically due to a variety of useful and accessible technologies to be utilized for upgrading service quality; this week we will focus on another device on the following content.

(b) Smartphones and Tablets
There is no doubt that in digital era, a social worker or program staff should have a mobile phone for work, but they do have a smartphone to facilitate their work. It is possible to illustrate a simple instance. Smartphones, no matter of the system of either IOS or Android,  has significant contribution to a social worker make an ordinary contact with his or her service users conveniently by using certain user-friendly instant communication applications (e.g. Whatsapp or Facebook Message). Although there are some controversial and ethical topics critical to the smartphone, the use of new technologies to establish and maintain relationship is of significance to everyone on daily basis, such as making an appointment for interview or information transmission. it is extremely difficult to tell your service users that the social worker does not have any smartphone and does not use it for work even though he or she uses it privately. However, it is possible to consider how non-profit organizations supply sufficient devices for their staff members to use for daily operation.
